live sound engineering for concerts in lagos: what organisers should know

booking a great artist is only half the job; if the crowd can't hear them clearly, the show falls flat. here's what every concert organiser in lagos should understand about live sound before signing a vendor.

a professional setup has two sides. front of house, or foh, is the sound the audience hears — the main pa, the mix the engineer builds, and the system tuning that keeps it clear from the front row to the back fence.

monitors are what the performers hear on stage, either through wedge speakers or in-ear monitors. skimp on monitors and even a great artist struggles, because they can't hear themselves to perform.

scale matters. an outdoor concert needs far more power than an indoor hall, plus delay towers for large crowds so the audience at the back hears in time with the stage. your vendor should be sizing the system to your venue and expected crowd, not reusing a one-size package.

just as important is the crew and the backup plan. a reliable production includes a dedicated foh engineer, a monitor engineer for bigger shows, spare microphones and cables, and a power plan that accounts for generator load. ask any vendor what happens if a channel fails mid-set professionals have an answer ready.

finally, insist on a proper soundcheck window in your schedule. rushed soundchecks are the number-one cause of avoidable problems on show night.
